| Art, literature unite people’s hearts, says Ashok Bajpeyi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 9- Internationally acclaimed Hindi writer and Chairman Lalit Kala Akademi Ashok Vajpeyi delivered a scholarly lecture at a function organized by Shashwati, an organization of Hindi writers of Jammu and Kashmir. The program was part of ‘Agyaya Memorial’ series of lectures organized by the SHASHWATI. The Agyaya Memorial lecturer on the topic of ‘Where is the need of art and literature’ was presided over by the former Vice Chancellor University of Jammu Prof M R Puri. In his lecture Vajpeyi said that when evil forces and fundamental mind set is dividing communities it is only the art and literature which unites people’s hearts and re-establishes the values of life in totality. He said the intellectual class can transform the society through their valuable ideas and vision. ‘Art and literature depicts half truth yet it has a power to combat various contradictions inherent in society’, he added. Vajpeyi, an internationally renowned Hindi poet-critic, translator, editor and cultural activist is the author of more than 13 books of poetry, seven of criticism in Hindi and three books on art in English and is widely recognized as an outstanding promoter of culture and an innovative builder. In his welcome address Ramesh Mehta convenor of Shashwati said the objective of the program was to commemorate the 97th birth anniversary of reputed Hindi poet of the country Sachidanad Vatsyayan Agyeya . Prof Puri in his presidential address appreciated Shashwai for organizing a purposeful event .He spoke about art and literature and focused on Hindi. He said the writer and the intellectual community should come forward and work for peace.
