Early Times Report JAMMU, May 20: Tawi Trekkers J&K, the pioneering trekking club of Jammu and Kashmir, has launched an initiative to promote lesser-known beauty spots and heritage sites in the region. Aiming to create adventure, heritage, and pilgrimage circuits through one-day treks, the club is now extending its efforts to conduct treks during the summer months as well. The first reconnaissance trek of the season is scheduled for May 26, 2024, to the sacred Naina Devi temple. This tranquil site, surrounded by lush green deodar forests, involves a 10 km round trip trek from Mantalai in Udhampur district. The 15-member group of trekkers will be led by Sushil Singh, a senior member of the club. The team includes Ram Khajuria, advisor of the club; Vivek Chauhan, Principal of Oriental Academy Sr. Secondary School; senior mountaineers Sumit Khajuria, Shilpa Charak, Shashi Kant Sharma, and Navneet Gupta; senior sports journalist Sanjeev Sharma; and senior members Seema Kharyal, Anu Sharma, along with some junior members who are key organizers of the "One Day Short Trek Series Programme." Notably, the club recently conducted a reconnaissance of the Mata Bala Sundri area in Billawar but found the trek too warm for younger trekkers. The club is also exploring the possibility of conducting two-day treks during the summer months. This initiative by Tawi Trekkers J&K aims to promote tourism and adventure activities in the region while providing trekkers with the opportunity to explore and appreciate the natural beauty and heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. |
