Jammu, May 20: Family members of terrorists have made an appeal for peace and democratic participation in Kashmir. Rouf Lone, brother of the dreaded Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist Umar Lone, and Dawood, brother of top LeT terrorist Bilal Ahmed, both emphasized the importance of youth involvement in the electoral process. Rouf Lone urged all misguided youth to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream. He expressed faith in the democratic system and encouraged young people to cast their votes for the development of their respective areas. Similarly, Dawood, after casting his vote in Sopore, called upon people to exercise their right to franchise for better development. Reflecting on the infamous 1987 rigged assembly elections, Ghulam Qadir Lone, former general secretary of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), expressed hope that such dark chapters would not be repeated. He stressed the need for free and fair elections and called upon Kashmiri youth to participate actively in the electoral process. Lone’s statements come amidst a charged political atmosphere in Kashmir, with various stakeholders advocating for greater democratic participation and transparency in the electoral process. |
