Jammu, March 9: The seat of the Chairman of the Legislative Council has fallen vacant with the end of the term of the incumbent Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora who is retiring tomorrow along with nine other members with the conclusion of the session in the Upper House.
Besides, Chairman Legislative Council, the Members who are retiring after the conclusion of the Session include, P Namgyal, Lal Mohammad Sabir, GS Charak, Mohammad Sultan Panditpori, Ved Mahajan, Amrit Malhotra and Purduman Singh, Ali Mohammad Sofi and Nasrullah.
A farewell was accorded to the Chairman and other retiring members here today. Appreciating the role of the outgoing Chairman the Minister for Forest Mian Altaf Ahmed said that Lone exhibited qualities of a best legislator and functioned beyond any bias. He said that the Chairman always maintained the order and the dignity of the House and gave equal opportunity to every Member to put forth his views. He said that Mr. Lone would be remembered for the bold stand he took to guide the Government on certain public issues.
Altaf also remembered the services of other retiring members stating that these Members had functioned as messengers of public and never lost any opportunity to raise their problems while fully maintaining the dignity of the House.
The Chairman Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone, while thanking the Members for their wholehearted support, said that the Members provided full cooperation to him in running the proceedings of the House. He said “I rendered my services bereft of any partisan approach and I considered it my sacred duty to respect the aspirations of the Members who had been chosen and sent in the House by the people seeking redressal of their genuine problems”.
Lone especially thanked the veteran Legislator Mr. P. Namgyal for his guidance in running the House in a smooth manner. He also welcomed the newly elected MLCs who have taken the oath today and wished them luck for fulfilling the aspirations of the people. The Chairman also thanked all agencies involved in the smooth running of the House.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman, S. Arminder Singh Micky, M. Y. Taing, P Namgyal, Mohammad Rashid Qureshi, Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat, Murtaza Ahmad Khan, Lal Mohammad Sabir, RS Chib, Nizam-ud-Din Khatana, Altaf Ahmad, A.G. Vakil, Showket Ahmad Wani, and Jehangir Mir also spoke on the occasion.
