Buddha Jayanti celebrated

Jammu, May 23: Buddha Jyanti was celebrated at shelter home (Home for urban homeless) among inmates of Rehan Basera. Buddha Jyanti or Buddha Purnima Commemorates the birth of Lord Gautam Buddha. Buddha was born around 563 BC in Lumbini in Nepal. Buddists Celebrate Buddha Purnima with great fervor. Near Varanasi in Utter Pradesh, Sarnath is place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment. It hold immense significance for Buddists and attracts piligrims worldwide. This sacred festival is celebrated in most of South, southeast and east Asia including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Thailand China, Korea Laos, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia, Indoneshia and many other countries.
While speaking on this occasion Sham lal Basson ex-corporator said Lord Buddha was born on this Baisakhi Purnima under a tree at Lumbini Lord Buddha got enlightenment on Baisakh Purnima under Buddhi tree at Buddh Gaya in Bihar and passed into Mahaparinirvan on Baisakh Purnima at Kushinagar under a tree. He said that every festival is celebrated among inmates of shelter home. Sham Basson said that this sacred festival offers a chance to spread the message of peace and hormony. He explained that India was one of the leading country in the world when whole India was buddist (Buddhmaya Bharat) world reknown universities named takshila, Nalanda etc were existing at that time. May the light of wisdom and compassion fill our life this Buddha Purnima, bringing endless joy and enlightenment to our journey.
Subash Gupta, retd. Judge also addressed the gathering and stressed to follow the teachings of Lord Buddha. He said that Buddhismis largest region based on liberty fraternity social equality, economic equality. Madam Veena Bakshi extended vote of thanks. She thanked diginitaries and all participants. She also threw light on the teachings of Lord Budha.
