| Pre-Air Show exercise grounded by misguided Air Force officials and Defence PRO | | | Jammu, September 21 :-Who is to blame for causing severe inconvenience to mediamen representing various local and national newspapers and news channels ?
The trouble started when the media corps was invited to cover the press conference, in conenction with the Air Show scheduled to held on September 24 at MAM Stadium, at the Technical airport in Jammu on Thursday.
The mediamen reached the Air Force station on time but they were not permitted in though senior functionaries of the Information Department,who had invited the press to the conference,were present.
The Air Force sentinels refused permission to the Information Department officers saying that “we have no information about the press conference.”
The mediamen waited for more than half an hour and finally they were told that there was no press conference to be addressed by any Air Force officer.It may be mentioend that before inviting media men Information department had said that Air Force officials will be briefing the media about the grand event.
When the Air Force people phoned the Defence PRO for finding whether he had been associated with the invitation to the newsmen the mystery was unfolded.
The Defence PRO is said to have informed the Air Force officials that neither he had been informed about the press meet nor had he sent any invitation to the mediamen indicating that the Clash of ego between the Air Force and the Defence PRO might have forced the Air Force to cancel the press meet.
According to the Joint Director Information,he had received a letter requesting to arrange the press conference which was to be addressed by a senior Air Force officer at the Air Force station in connection with the Air show it was organizing in the MAM stadium on Sunday.
The Joint Director told mediamen that he had been asked to arrange the press meet but was not informed that the meet has been cancelled.The information about the cancellation of the press meet had been conveyed to the Defence PRO who did not pass on the information either to the Information Department or to the newsmen individually.
One Air Force Officer told newsmen “I am surprised to see such a big press corps here.We have no knowledge about the press meet.”A strange argument.A strange behaviour on the part of the elite Defence PRO and the Air Force These two elite agencies did not even accord treatment to a senior state Government officer of KAS Cadre which he was entitled to.
Newsmen felt hurt when none at the Air Force station officers expressed “sorry” for the mess that had been created by them and the Defence PRO.It seemed that there is hardly coordination between the two agencies. |
