| Pandits strongly oppose move on renaming Anantnag | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 10- Expressing deep concern over the resolution brought by PDP MLA in the State assembly recently designed to rename the historical and traditional name of Anantnag as Islamabad in Kashmir valley, the Panun Kashmir Movement (PKM) has said that it has done in a bid to legitimate the action of the Muslim fundamentalists who have already changed the traffic and other signboards in the district renaming them as ‘Islamabad’ illegally. Addressing an extra-ordinary meeting of the Office Bearers of Panun Kashmir Movement (PKM) here today Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo has said that the resolution was further indicative of paving a smooth way through an unwarranted legislation to rechristen all the indigenous and historical names of shrines and places of worship in the valley with Islamic names. It was devastatingly in tune with the mindset of the religious fundamentalists of the valley who were hell bent on finding all possible means of changing the social-political structures and other democratic institutions of the State to facilitate a complete changeover to the Islamic colonization of the valley, he added.. The meeting was also attended by Upender Kaul, General Secretary, Kamal Bagati, Prof. M.L.Raina, R.K.Bhat, Virinder Kaul, Vijay Qazi and Nanaji Dembi. Prof. Raina, Chairman of the Political Affairs Committee recalled the days of exodus and said that after killing the members of the Kashmiri Pandit community in Kashmir, the fundamentalists and terrorists burnt their houses and grabbed their properties to eliminate all chances of return of the indigenous people of Kashmir to the land of their ancestors. Destruction and changing the names of social and cultural symbols is a part of the plan of ethnic cleansing of minorities of the valley. The members of the legislature who have taken oath of the constitution are supposed to behave like responsible citizens and politicians and desist from flaring up the tensions. The members also expressed satisfaction in regard to passage of the Temples bill but cautioned the government to desist from undue interference in the management and control of the shrines. Their management and control should be in the hands of the community to which they belong. The members also expressed their opinion regarding the Forms of the Relief Organization and wanted that its last date may be extended further. The meeting condemned the gruesome killing of Aman Kachroo, a medical student of Himachal Pradesh College at Tanda who became a victim of ragging by his senior college students. The government should leave no stone unturned in bringing the culprits to justice immediately and due compensation may be paid to his family. PKM expresses deep sympathies with the family of Aman Kachroo in this hour of their great distress and mourning.
