5/25/2024 11:18:30 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 25: The J&K State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), in collaboration with the SCI Jammu, organized an Organ Donation Awareness Programme at the Government Polytechnic for Women, Jammu, as part of the "Angdaan Mahotsav." The event aimed to disseminate information on cadaveric organ donation and dispel various myths surrounding the practice.
Er. Suket Gupta, Principal of the institution, served as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the critical need for such Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) programs to bridge the significant gap between the demand and availability of human organs. He urged everyone to come forward and pledge their support for this noble cause.
Dr. Ashu Sharma, Consultant IEC/Media SOTTO J&K, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing that each donated organ is invaluable, lifesaving, and a national resource. She explained that a single person can save up to eight lives through the donation of vital organs such as kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, pancreas, and intestines. Additionally, tissue donations, including cornea, skin, bone, and heart valves, can significantly improve the quality of life for many others. The programme was well-attended by faculty, staff, and students of the institution, all of whom showed keen interest in the cause. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Bhawana Arora, Lecturer Grade-II in Textile and Program Officer NSS, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers for their efforts in promoting organ donation awareness.
