| BJP may align with Panthers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar10-The BJP and the Panthers party are not averse to forging an electoral understanding for contesting the ensuing Lok Sabha election in Jammu and Kashmir. While the Panthers Party has decided to field Bhim Singh from Kathua-Udhampur constituency the BJP is likely to shortlist the candidates at the meeting of the party's Parliamentary Board in Delhi on March 12. "We have not yet selected candidates who are to be fielded in the two constituencies of the Jammu region," said the BJP Chief, Ashok Khajuria. Askd whether the BJP had any plan of forging an alliance with the Panthers Party Khajuria said "we have not discussed the issue." When asked whether the possibility of alliance with Panthers Party was bleak the BJP Chief said "we will discuss it with the party leadership in Delhi. He said "we have been flooded by applicants desiring BJP ticket for contesting the Lok Sabha poll. We have not taken any decision as the party high command will make the final selection." The leader of the Panthers Party in the Assembly, Harsh Dev Singh, seemd to be in favour of an understanding with the BJP. Askd whether he would initiate talks for hammering out an alliance he said "I have no problem if the BJP was also in favour of an alliance." He said it would be better if the entire opposition are united and once "we are united we can win three to four out of six seats. He said that if all the opposition parties fielded joint candidates "the ruling alliance may not win more than two seats."
