Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 26: Natrang Studio Theatre Kachi Chawni hosted a captivating performance of 'Rehearsal,' a Hindi play written by Lakshmi Kant Vaishnav and directed by Neeraj Kant, as part of its weekly Sunday Theatre Series. The play, delivered with a biting satirical edge, critiques the folly of individuals attempting to achieve greatness without adequate knowledge or essential qualifications.
'Rehearsal' humorously depicts a chaotic rehearsal for a play, featuring an all-female cast. These characters, eager to deliver a stellar performance, lack the fundamental attributes needed for a professional theatre production, such as discipline, punctuality, team spirit, self-motivation, and neutrality. Instead, they are plagued by jealousy, gossip, lack of coordination, and egotism.
The play unfolds in a tumultuous rehearsal setting where each character dramatically expresses her thoughts. Despite the presence of a director, her own limitations and lack of authority prevent her from effectively managing the team. The cast members, preoccupied with personal whims and inflated egos-some stemming from their husbands' high-status positions-seek preferential treatment, leading to further discord.
Ultimately, the rehearsal depicted in 'Rehearsal' descends into chaos, underscoring the necessity of discipline and commitment in producing meaningful art. The performance leaves the audience with a powerful message about the importance of professional rigor and dedication.
The talented young actors who brought this play to life included Vrinda Gujral, Vandana Thakur, Priya Kashyap, Payal Khanna, Lalita Sharma, Kushal Bhat, Sana Devi, and Mehak Chib. Neeraj Kant managed the lighting, while Kushal Bhat handled the sound. The show was expertly coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
Natrang continues to be a beacon of thought-provoking and socially relevant theatre, engaging audiences with its innovative productions and nurturing the next generation of theatre artists.
