| 1350 Educational Institutions functioning in Kathua district | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, MARCH 12 -The district has 912 Primary schools including up- gradation 234 EGS centres as primary schools, 328 Middle schools, 68 high schools and 37 higher secondary schools and five degree colleges. Against the approved outlay of Rs.1136.85 lakh including Rs. 500.10 lakh as revenue component, Rs. 107.67 lakh stands incurred upto ending January, 2009. An amount of Rs.11 lakh is being spent for supply of text books to 14400 students of class 1st and 2nd under Mid-Day Meal programme, 61175 students from class 1st to 8th are being covered under the scheme during the year , besides regularization of 56 Rebar-e- Taleem teachers as general line teachers during 2008-09. The Serva Siksha Abhiyan launched for providing education to all in the age group of 6 to 14 years, has lent a boost to the construction programme of the department. 5 Block Resource Centres, 30 Cluster Resource Centres, 152 new primary schools and 226 additional class rooms have been constructed under the programme since its inception besides completion of one Middle School building against the target of 21 To cater to the needs of Higher education, Five New degree colleges including one Women Degree college have been made operational in the district at Kathua, Hiranagar, Billawar, Basohli and Bani. Under Prime Minister Reconstruction Plan, the buildings of three new Degree colleges including One Women Degree College have been completed. The work on Degree College Billawar has been taken up by the NBCC at an estimated cost of Rs. 9.73 crore. The building is expected to be completed by ending March 2010.
