9/21/2006 8:48:30 PM

Srinagar, Sept 21: Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has decided to appoint ambassador Ezzat Kamal Mufti as special representative on Jammu and Kashmir, and chief priest Mirwaiz Umar Farooq–chairman of a faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has hailed this move in his speech at the meeting of OIC contact group during the 61st session of United Nations General Assembly, New York.
"I would like to express our gratitude for the consistent support extended by OIC over the years to our legitimate struggle for self-determination. This support has been instrumental in strengthening the resolve of the Kashmiri people to continue with their fight for self-determination," said a statement issued by APHC led by Mirwaiz on Thursday quoting from speech delivered by him at New York.
Hailing the decision of OIC to appoint its representative on Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz has said in his speech, "Your decision to appoint Ambassador Ezzat Kamal Mufti as your special representative on Jammu and Kashmir is an important one."
Hurriyat chairman also extended an invitation to Mr Kamal to visit Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) to "assess the situation and meet with the leadership of both governments of India and Pakistan."
Appreciating the efforts of OIC in relation to its support for Kashmiris, Mirwaiz said: "We extend our special thanks to all members in this contact group who gather thrice a year at different fora to discuss the Jammu and Kashmir dispute."
Speaking about the struggle of Kashmiris, Mr Umar said: "The valiant Kashmiri people are about to complete six decades of continuous struggle. Every home in Kashmir has contributed in this struggle for self-determination. Every day in Kashmir people lose homes, hearths, friends and family members. The Kashmiri struggle continues despite these hardships."
He also supported Pakistan's position on Kashmir that recognizes the Kashmiris as a party to the "dispute". Mirwaiz made a passionate request to the United Nations and the international community to call upon India to "show flexibility band sincerity in finding a just and lasting solution to this dispute".
He also called upon the member states of the OIC to use their good offices to bring an end to the human rights violations.
