| FOLN demands amendment in Roshni Act | | | Early Times Report Jammu Mar 12: Welcoming the government statement on the floor of the Assembly with regard to the implementation of J&K State Land (investing of ownership to the occupants) Act 2001, popularly known as Roshni Act, the Forum of Lease Holders/ Occupants of Nazool/ Government Land (FOLN) has said that the same vindicates their stand that the government has defeated the very objective of the original Act of 2001, which was adopted during the NC government. Against the targeted revenue realization of Rs 25000 crores through vesting ownership rights on the occupants of lands, against nominal payments, only Rs 55 crores have actually been realized by the government by disposing of 120239 applications. A meeting of FONL held here today under the Chairmanship of its Chairman Inderjeet Khajuria said that the major amount was to be collected from the agricultural land under occupation of farmers in the rural area, which the new government had given away almost free of any charge, while it wanted to collect the entire targeted amount from a small number of occupants of lands, under regular lease deed, in the urban areas, where the occupants for last 60 to 100 years have already paid premium fixed at that time and were also paying ground rent on the same.. The FONL has demanded that since the present government is convinced that there are anomalies in the amended Act, the same should be further amended, to make it rational. They have demanded that the rates should be charged from them as case has been the case with those living in 13 colonies which were regularized by the JDA or alternatively they should be changed the rates as fixed by the Supreme Court in case of Amrit Malhotra. S S Pathania President, S Gajan Singh, General Secretary, Iqbal Khullar Secrecaty, M L Sharma Cashier, Ajay Bakshi, Somnath Sharma and Rajinder Singh were present at the meeting.
