| HC issues notice in a election petition | | Mankotia’s election from Udhampur challenged | | Early Tikes Report
Jammu, Mar 12- Justice Nissar Ahmed Kakru First Puisne Judge of J&K High Court today issued notice in election petition filed by Pawan Kumar Gupta of BJP challenging the election of Balwant Singh Mankotia elected MLA on the mandate of JKNPP from Udhampur Assembly Constituency.
After hearing Senior Advocate AV Gupta with Advocate Sunil Khajuria, Justice Kakru disposed off the CMP and observed that in the CMP direction is sought for production of record, but in the opinion of the Court the record is not required right now however a direction for its preservation by the authorities concerned is required.
The election of Balwant Singh Mankotia has been challenged on various grounds including some criminal cases pending against him and also allegedly committing gross corrupt practices in the election campaign. The petitioner sought direction for declaring the election of Udhampur constituency as null and void and holding of fresh election for Udhampur Assembly seat. JNF
