| Bhaderwah Campus of JU: An Eco-friendly knowledge hub | | | Early Times Report Bhaderwah, Mar 12- Himalayas are known for its scenic beauty and from time to time great suifs and saints have sought peace in this serene and peaceful environment from times immemorial. One of the great achievements of Government of Jammu and Kashmir during the last couple of years has been to take higher education to the doorsteps of the inhabitants of remote and hilly areas. The University of Jammu has taken a lead in this context by opening its Campuses in different corners of Jammu region. Established in the year 2006 in a rented accommodation, the State of the art Campus at Sungli Bhaderwah was inaugurated by the President of India, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil on May 26th, 2008. The campus is located in a picturesque environment with Asha Pati Glacier in South-East and Kaplash mountain of rang in the south west and the river Neru flowing in the east. The dense Coniferous forests covering the mountainous ranges and the lush green terraced Paddy fields all around the summer makes this University Campus one of the most serene Campuses where one can achieve academically as much as one desires. “The University authorities have added to this beauty by establishing fruit Orchards with different varieties of high-density apples and a beautifully landscaped Tulip garden. This activity will be beneficial for the Campus in two ways,” said Rector Bhaderwah Campus Prof. I A Hamal. First it will make the Campus Eco-friendly which means that the Campus becomes ecologically stable with least disturbance to the nature and second benefit to the Campus will be that it will provide economic incentives in future. During the recent visit of University Grant Commission (UGC) team to Bhaderwah Campus for 11th plan assessment has expressed that in near future the Campus will become an important knowledge hub not only for the remote, hilly and backward area of erstwhile Doda district but will also cater to the academic growth of the youth of adjoining areas of districts like Kathua, Udhampur and even Himachal Pradesh. However this will become possible only when inter state road connectivity between Bhaderwah and Chamba becomes operational, besides the road connectivity between Bhaderwah-Bani-Basholi. During his recent visit to Bhaderwah Campus, Professor Varun Sahni , Vice Chancellor University of Jammu appreciated the Eco-friendly concept of the campus and hoped that in near future the campus will emerge as an excellent centre for academic activities. Vice Chancellor also impressed upon making the campus more ecologically as well as economically sustainable.
