Srinagar, Sept 21, 06 : Maintaining that people of Kashmir want complete peace and an end to violence of all sorts, President of largest pro-India political party in the troubled state–National Conference, Omar Abdullah on Thursday stressed for "safe and dignified" return of Kashmiri youth to their homes who have crossed over to the other side of Line of Control for receiving arms training in the earlier years launched in 1989,against India.
Inaugurating the community-cum-marriage hall constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 38 lakh in Khanyar area of Srinagar–stronghold of NC's Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mr Omar launched a scathing attack on the coalition government, especially Peoples Democratic Party's patron Mufti Sayeed, saying that "the coalition has failed people on all fronts and has also failed to keep its promises". He said it was time to revoke all "black laws" implemented by Mufti Sayeed, the former Chief Minister in the state. "Even after four long years our youths, who eschewed violence, have not been rehabilitated by this government. And the long-pending demands of Kashmiris for the safe return of our youth from across the LoC have also been ignored," he said in his public address, adding, "return of our youth from PaK was imperative for durable peace in the region". Voicing concern over the prevailing situation in Kashmir he said: "During the last sixteen years of unrest and uncertainty we have graveyards, abandoned homes and hearths, and blood spilled everywhere." Alleging that coalition government has added to the miseries of people during its four year "misrule", Omar said by installing electric metres government was trying to get money without giving electricity in return. After his speech ended, Mr Omar handed over the control of the newly constructed community hall–where 400 persons can sit at a time, to the administration of local mosque there. Omar has released Rs 15 lakh for the construction of this hall while Member Assembly Ali Mohammad Sagar has released the rest of the money needed. Later, Omar also visited the renowned shrine of Dastgeer Saheb.
