| Several vehicles seizes, Rs.1.69 lakh penalty recovered | | Vigilance, Commercial Taxes imposes penalty on tax evaders | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 12- A penalty amounting to Rs. 1.69 lakh was imposed on several vehicles importing goods without valid documents and evading actual tax liability. A team of Vigilance and Commercial Taxes in a surprise raid conducted under the supervision of its Dy. Commissioner Commercial Taxes Shamsheer Singh Bahadur conducted a surprise raid on Jammu-Pathankot Highway during wee hours today and seized several vehicles imported goods without the documents. The vehicles seized included one inter-state Viedo Coach Bus No RJ 35 A 0610 which was carrying goods in concealed manner, two trucks carrying trade goods, another two trucks laden with tiles and sanitary ware and a truck carrying plywood. The team put all these vehicles to physical check and after thorough checking the team reassessed the goods as per the prevailing market rate and imposed a penalty of Rs.1,69,076 under various provisions of VAT Act 2005 which was recovered on spot from the tax evaders prior to release of goods and the vehicles
