JAMMU, June 4: World Environment Day 2024 was commemorated by the NCC cadets of 2 J&K Girls Bn. NCC (A coy) of PSPS Govt. College for Women, Gandhinagar, undertook a series of impactful activities under the theme "Land Restoration: Combating Desertification and Enhancing Drought Resilience" from 3rd June onwards. Celebrated annually on June 5, this year's observance saw the cadets actively engage in a multitude of initiatives aimed at honoring and protecting Mother Earth.
The event commenced with a vibrant poster-making competition wherein cadets exhibited their creativity to highlight the importance of land restoration and the adverse effects of desertification. The colorful and thought-provoking posters served as powerful visual messages, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and the urgency of taking action to preserve our natural resources.
The cadets also took an online pledge "Unite for Nature" to commit to sustainable practices and support land restoration efforts. This pledge symbolizes a collective commitment to combat desertification and promoting drought resilience, reinforcing the core message of World Environment Day 2024.
Continuing the momentum, June 4 witnessed enthusiastic participation in home and community plantation drives. Under the slogan "Go Green, Breathe Clean," cadets planted trees and shrubs in their local communities and at their homes, fostering a greener environment and contributing to enhanced air quality. This initiative not only beautified the surroundings but also aimed at fostering a sense of responsibility towards environmental stewardship among the participants and the broader community.
Harnessing the power of social media, the cadets also shared informative and engaging videos to raise awareness about land degradation and the significance of drought resilience exhibiting their dedication to environmental conservation.
Dr. S.P.Sarswat, Principal of the College applauded the cadets and Mentor Lt. Suman Bala ,ANO 2J&K Girls Bn. for their efforts which will definitely serve as an inspiring example of youth-led initiatives making a tangible impact on the planet.
