| Farooq invokes Autonomy in PDP’s heartland | | |
Early Times report Srinagar: National Conference, President Farooq Abdullah on Thursday asserted that his party will not compromise on its Autonomy report and will forcefully pursue it after the conclusion of parliamentary elections across India. “We have not given up our autonomy report nor will we make any compromise. Autonomy remains our top priority and our party will forcefully pursue it,” Abdullah said, while addressing thousands of party workers during a one day convention at Town Hall, Pulwama on Thursday. Reports reaching Press Bureau of India said that Farooq Abdullah termed the panchayat elections ‘vital’ for the party’s successive in coming years. Farooq Abdullah said that he will try to strengthen the party’s base at grass root level. He also invited the people with ‘good faith’ from South Kashmir to join the National Conference. Commenting on the party’s debacle in the South Kashmir during last year’s assembly polls, Abdullah said that Mufti pressed official machinery into service to make sure the success of his party. The NC President also admitted that some mistakes were made by the party that led to the defeat. Launching a scathing attack at PDP leadership, Abdullah said that Mufti Mohammad Syed and his daughter Mehbooba are misleading the people of state with hollow slogans. He said soon after the results of last years’ elections were announced, Mufti and his daughter made rounds of Congress party headquarters and UPA Chairperson’s residence in order to keep national conference away from forming government in the state. “Mufti and his daughter tried their best to prevent NC from forming the government. They even made rounds of Congress party headquarters and the residence of UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi offering them unconditional support for the government formation,” Abdullah said. “The day is not far when the conspiracies hatched by Mufti and his party will be unmasked. They are the people who sold forests, chastity of our mothers and daughters, and resorted to corruption during their rule,” he added
