Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 5: In a decisive move to uphold high agricultural standards and ensure farmer welfare in the Jammu area, Director Agriculture Jammu, Shri Arvinder Singh Reen, conducted an unannounced visit to assess the quality of Plant Protection materials being sold in the R S Pura subdivision of Jammu District.
Reen was accompanied by a team of officers, including Plant Protection Officer Madan Lal, Assistant Director of Law Enforcement Shri Kuldeep Singh, and SDAO RS Pura Surinder Gupta. The primary aim of the visit was to verify adherence to quality standards in the distribution of Plant Protection materials in the region.
During the inspection, samples of pesticides were collected on the spot and dispatched for rigorous quality analysis at the departmental regional pesticides testing laboratory in Jammu. The available stock of Plant Protection Chemicals with the retailers was also verified against the Principal Certificates provided by the respective companies or manufacturers. Dealers found stocking materials not registered on the enclosed list of their licenses were served notices, mandating rectification within a stipulated timeframe. Failure to comply would result in the initiation of legal proceedings under the relevant rules.
Director Agriculture Jammu, Arvinder Singh Reen, underscored the importance of quality Plant Protection Chemicals in the agricultural sector and instructed officials to ensure the supply of high-quality materials to farmers. He emphasized the need for displaying price lists and fulfilling all necessary parameters as mandated by the Insecticide Act.
Plant Protection Officer Jammu, Shri Madan Lal, instructed dealers and distributors to ensure timely filing of monthly sales returns as per the required format and to avoid supplying products without quality test reports from the manufacturers. Assistant Director of Law Enforcement, Shri Kuldeep Singh, warned and directed all dealers in Jammu Division to sell quality inputs to the farming community at genuine rates, failing which legal action would be taken against defaulters.
Shri Arvinder Singh Reen impressed upon the Law Enforcement agency the need for regular inspections, especially during peak seasons, and the sampling of Plant Protection Chemicals from the market to ensure the detection and elimination of fake or spurious pesticides, thereby supporting the production of disease-free crops.
This proactive approach by the Director Agriculture Jammu aims to enhance the quality of agricultural inputs and protect the interests of farmers, ensuring a robust and healthy agricultural ecosystem in the region.
