Srinagar: Two employees of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) on hunger strike were removed to hospital by police on Friday after their health deteriorated.
Reports reaching said that more than dozen daily –wage employees of the PHE went on hunger strike on Wednesday to press their demands for the release of their long pending salaries and regularization of the jobs.
Eyewitnesses told , Ejaz Ahmad Ganai and Mukhtar Ahmad, two of the protesting PHE employees were removed to hospital by police on Friday morning after their health conditions deteriorated. However, other employees were reluctant to call off their hunger strike. They threatened to intensify their protests incase the ruling coalition government fails to solve their problems.
“We will not end the strike till government fulfills our genuine demands. We have always been discriminated and misled by the government,” a protester told
“Government had announced to regularize all the daily wagers who have served the department for seven years. But despite 14 years of service, we have not been regularized,” he added.
