| Police arrests ‘fake cop’ on extortion charges | | |

Srinagar: Police arrested an extortionist who posed as a policeman in Khanyar area of city on Friday.
Police sources told that Khanyar police station received a written complaint from a Rainawari resident in which he had mentioned that a policeman is threatening to harm him incase he fails to pay him the extortion money.
They said, acting on the complaint a police team laid a trap and arrested Hilal Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad of Harwan and seized fake identity card from his possession.
“Bhat had already taken Rupees 1700 from the complainant and now had to receive Rs 1300 as second installment when we laid a trap and caught him red-handed,” police sources told .
Station House Officer, Khanyar, Nisar Ahmad told that based on the complaint of extortion by a policeman, a police team from Khanyar laid a trap and arrested a person who posed as a policeman. The SHO identified the fake policeman as Hilal Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat of Harwan.
He said police has registered a case and started investigations in this regard.
