DC inaugurates Inter-Zonal District Level Tournament at Sports Stadium Doda

DODA, June 8: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harvinder Singh inaugurated the highly anticipated Inter-Zonal District Level Tournament at Sports Stadium Doda today. This tournament, an integral part of the annual calendar of activities for the years 2024-25, is set to run from June 8 to June 15, and then from June 24 to July 1. Organized by the Department of Youth Service and Sports, under the guidance of Director Youth Service & Sports J&K, Subash Chander Chhibber, and supervised by DYSSO Sunil Kumar, the tournament aims to instill a culture of sports and physical activity among the youth of the region. The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, as the Chief Guest and CEO Parkash Lal Thapa as the Guest of Honor.
The Deputy Commissioner engaged with the students and led a pledge emphasizing the values of sportsmanship and fair play.
The DC emphasized the pivotal role of sports in fostering a sense of pride and achievement among students. He highlighted the importance of encouraging every school child to actively participate in sports.
Featuring a diverse array of sports including volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, taekwondo, fencing, chess, carrom, tug of war, yoga, table tennis, and more, the tournament aims to cater to the varied interests of the participants.
Today, a total of 350 above students showcased their talent and enthusiasm by participating in various disciplines. In an exciting volleyball match between Ghat and Assar, Assar emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 sets.
Similarly, in a kabaddi match between Gundna and Doda, Doda secured a win with 23 points.
The tournament promises to provide a platform for young athletes to exhibit their skills and sportsmanship, while fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among the participants. The District Administration extends its gratitude to the sports department, participating schools, and all individuals involved in organizing this event.
