GCPFI discusses election results, future strategies in J&K

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 8: The General Category People's Front of India (GCPFI) convened a meeting to discuss the recently declared parliamentary election results and the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting, Prof. Yash Paul Sharma, President of the Front, addressed the attendees, expressing concerns over Prime Minister Modi's diminishing appeal and the need for introspection rather than relying on past successes.
Prof. Sharma alleged that Modi's tenure as Prime Minister had been marked by blatant appeasement politics based on a "Divide & Rule" policy, aligning with an anti-Swarn agenda. He pointed out that the BJP lost 11 seats in Rajasthan due to the anger of the Rajputs and at least 26 seats in Uttar Pradesh due to the Swarn castes' dissatisfaction with the promotion of casteism through reservation policies. At the national level, the BJP experienced a loss of 64 Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress gained 44 seats.
The meeting highlighted that Swarn castes expressed their anger against caste-based discrimination by using the NOTA (None of the Above) option, which outnumbered many candidates in several constituencies. Prof. Sharma emphasized that development alone is not sufficient for winning elections. The economic downturn, unprecedented price rise, tax policies, and neglect of the middle class significantly impacted the election results.
Prof. Sharma also criticized the Modi government for functioning like a corporate house, imposing heavy taxes, fines, fees, tolls, and service taxes. He referenced the Jammu and Udhampur Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP lost approximately 400,000 votes compared to the 2019 elections. Additionally, he targeted L.G. Manoj Sinha for what he described as anti-Jammu and anti-middle class policies.
The Front's appeal for exercising the NOTA option received a positive response, with Udhampur recording 12,938 NOTA votes, placing it in 4th position, and Jammu recording 4,665 NOTA votes, placing it in 5th position. Mr. S.N. Sharma, General Secretary of the Front, expressed hope that the anger among the general category people against the Modi government would signal the beginning of the BJP's decline.
