| PDP to move resolution on self-rule, demilitarization in Assembly again | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 13-The PDP has decided to move again in the Assembly a resolution seeking support of the House for implementing the self-rule concept. According to the party General Secretary, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, "we had tabled a resolution in the Assembly during its recent session but it could not be taken up for discussion because the session was brief." Bhat said that the resolution on self-rule will be moved during the budget session of the legislature in July. In reply to a question he said that implementation of self-rule could not only ensure peace in Jammu and Kashmir but may lead to the resolution of the Kashmir issue. He said that the self-rule concept has been framed in such a way as could address both the internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir issue. The PDP leader said that greater autonomy concept of the National Conference touched only the internal dimensions of the problem because it simply sought a new administrative and political arrangement between the state and the centre. In reply to another question Bhat said that the PDP will remove a resolution on the need for carrying out demilitarization. He said this resolution had been entertained by the Assembly secretariat early this month but could not come up for discussion as only one day had been fixed for discussion on resolutions. He said the PDP wants armed forces to be withdrawn from those areas where the security situation had become normal. He said once the troops were withdrawn and law and order remained in the hands of the police the situation could further improve and the incidents of human rights violations would be a thing of the past.
