Pranayama benefits highlighted at five-day Yoga Camp in Channi Himmat
6/15/2024 9:30:29 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 15: A five-day Yoga Camp was inaugurated at Ramleela Ground, Sector 2, Channi Himmat, Jammu, focusing on the profound benefits of Pranayama and other yogic practices. Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain, the State Yoga Commissioner, State Chairman of the Indian Yoga Association, President of Vichar Kranti Manch International, and State Convener of Bharat Vikas Parishad, was specially invited to conduct a session on Yoga.
Mr. Ashok Gupta, Vice President of Bharat Vikas Parishad and VKMI, provided an introduction and advisory on yoga, followed by practical sessions of Yogasans conducted by S/Sh Ravinder and Subhash Gupta from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. Mr. Ashok Khajuria, Secretary of Shivalik Branch BVP, welcomed the participants, and Mr. HC Vaid, Branch President, detailed the program.
Dr. Jain's session focused on Pranayama, a key component of yoga involving the regulation of breath. He explained that Pranayama, derived from the words 'Prana' (life energy) and 'Yama' (control), involves specific breathing exercises and patterns where one purposely inhales, exhales, and holds the breath in a sequence. He highlighted that Pranayama, combined with physical postures (Asans) and meditation (Dhyan), contributes significantly to physical and mental wellness.
Dr. Jain elaborated on the ancient practice of controlling breath through timings, duration, and frequency, connecting the body and mind while supplying oxygen and removing toxins to provide psychological benefits. Participants practiced deep and long breathing techniques, understanding the difference between ordinary breathing and abdominal/yogic breathing.
Scientific studies underscore the benefits of Pranayama, including stress reduction, increased mindfulness, lower high blood pressure, improved lung function, and enhanced cognitive performance. Dr. Jain demonstrated cooling Pranayamas like Shitali, Shitkari, Chandranulom, and Chandrabhedi, which help relieve the body from heat and balance the nervous system using the left Nadi (Chandar Nadi). He advised practicing these techniques for 10 to 30 minutes daily during summer.
Additionally, Dr. Jain introduced a Pranayama effective in managing stress, tension, anxiety, and depression, positively impacting psychological health and sleep quality. Participants also practiced four types of Bhramari Pranayama and engaged in a meditation session.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Shivram Sharma, State General Secretary of Bharat Vikas Parishad, who encouraged maximum participation in the concluding function scheduled for June 19th at Panch Mandir, Channi Himmat.
