Early Times Report

Jammu, June 16: On the directions of Commissioner JMC, Mr. Rahul Yadav, IAS, a joint team from Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and the Sheep Husbandry Department, including Dr. Ramandeep Singh and Dr. Jiwan Lal, along with Municipal Veterinary Officer Dr. Divya Sharma, conducted surprise meat inspection drives across various areas of Jammu City on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha 2024.
The inspections aimed to ensure that consumers receive wholesome and high-quality meat and meat byproducts. The surprise drives took place in multiple locations including Talab Tillo, Bohri, Muthi, Bantalab, Paloura, Janipur, Ambphalla, CPO Chowk, Narwal, Gandhi Nagar, Gangyal, Satwari, Talab Khatikan, and Shahidi Chowk.
During the inspections, numerous meat shops, chicken shops, and fishmongers were scrutinized. Approximately 25 kg of substandard meat was seized and disposed of scientifically. Additionally, fines totaling Rs. 10,000 were imposed on vendors selling unstamped, unhygienic, and substandard meat.
Shop vendors were instructed to use separate bins for daily waste generated from refused or inedible meat and chicken parts, ensuring proper disposal through JMC vehicles.
Dr. Divya Sharma, MVO JMC, sensitized all meat and chicken shopkeepers on maintaining a hygienic environment in and around their shops.
Vendors were reminded to adhere to the Food Safety Act, 2006, Municipal Corporation Act, 2000, and other JMC guidelines to ensure consumers receive high-quality, hygienic meat. Dustbins were also distributed among various shop owners for proper waste collection.
These measures are part of JMC’s ongoing efforts to uphold public health standards and provide safe, quality meat products to the residents of Jammu City.
