JCC organizes function on World Consumers Day

Jammu Mar 14- Jammu Consumers Council in collaboration with the government MAM PG College Jammu organized a function on the occasion of World Consumers Day. The function was president over by Prof. M.S Baloria Principal of the College and Ved Bhasin was the chief guest.
Prof. Baloria in his welcome address stated that the people in general are not aware of their rights as consumer and there was need for NGO’s like Jammu Consumer Council to make people aware of their rights.
Even the shopkeeper do not issue bills when people go to purchase goods in the market, he lamented. It is important to make the students aware about various problem being faced by the people. He said that a series of lectures and seminars have been conducted in his institute to create awareness problems of environmental degradation, pollution energy and water crisis.
Jatender Bakshi secretary general gave a brief account of the Jammu Consumer Council (JCC) right from its inception date. He stated that Council is the only NGO in India to have crated various consumer clubs in various educational institutions on a large sale Prof. B.L. Kaul in his lecture elucidated the rights of consumers with various examples.
Ved Bhasin president of the Jammu Consumer Council replied to various questions regarding consumer rights.
The students who interacted included Lalitjeet Singh, Sacher Sharma, Samsher Singh, Prof. Indu Kilam, Surinder Kumar, R.K. Chadha and several others.
The questions raised were regarding non issuance of bus tickets, poor supply of electricity, water supply, pollution and environmental degradation.
Bhasin stated that unless people as consumer stress their problem properly and unless people assert themselves, nothing concrete can come out. ‘Consumer is king in the market and if he asserts himself, he is bound to get his dues. The consumers must ask for bills or cash memos for all their purchases’ he said.
The function was conducted by S.K. Gupta while the vote of thanks was presented by J.S. Chauhan.
