Farooq likely to be NC’s CM face in Assembly elections

Jammu, June 16: The veteran politician of Jammu and Kashmir and incumbent president of the National Conference is likely to be the chief ministerial face of the People's Alliance for the party.
Vice-president of the party and former chief minister Omar Abdullah has already announced that they will not contest the assembly, leaving Dr. Farooq Abdullah as the only option before the conglomeration.
The octogenarian politician announced that he will contest the next assembly elections in the Union Territory of J&K.
Being a veteran politician Dr. Farooq Abdullah has mass appeal in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir so party workers would be happy to protect him as Chief Ministerial’s face.
“I am not escaping the responsibility to handle my party National Conference. I will continue to work to strengthen the party”, Dr. Abdullah, time and again, told the media and party leadership.
Before the Lok Sabha elections, Dr Farooq Abdullah had made it clear that he would fight the assembly elections.
“I am here to fight elections. Whenever the next assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir, I will fight,” Dr. Abdullah had asserted recently and predicted that the Assembly polls

I am here to fight elections. Whenever the next assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir, I will fight.
n J&K will be held just after the conclusion of this Year’s Amarnath Yatra.
Last week Omar Abdullah announced that he will not contest the forthcoming Assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir.
“I am not contesting Assembly elections. I will not fight the election in the Union Territory, I am absolutely clear on that. I will help my Party, I will lead the campaign. But, I will not enter the Assembly of the Union Territory of J&K”, Omar said, adding, “I will do whatever possible for the victory of my party in the assembly elections”.
Omar Abdullah further said that he would fight for the full statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and the restoration of the previous status of the erstwhile state.
“Only after restoring the full statehood, then if possible I will seek an opportunity to enter the Assembly to play my part there”, Omar said, adding, “I will not humiliate myself by entering the Assembly of the Union Territory”.
Earlier on November 3, 2022. National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah had announced that Omar Abdullah would not contest assembly elections till J&K's statehood is restored. Farooq said Omar has already clarified that he will not contest elections till the statehood of J&K is restored.
