| 6-day workshop on Buddhism commences at Leh | | | Early Times Report Leh, Mar 14- The 6- day training- cum- workshop on Buddhism under title ‘Indian Cultural Heritage Specialist Guide Program’ has been jointly organized by the UNESCO, Tourism Department, NIRLAC and District Administration. This training program was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, .K Sahu by lighting traditional lamp. The inaugural function was attended by resource persons of UNESCO, Secretary NIRLAC, Principal CIBS, Tourist Officer, Scholars, students of Namgyal Institute and tourist guides. In his welcome address Assistant Director Tourism Nissar Hussain said that Ladakh was opened for foreign tourists in the year 1974 with 500 tourists which has now reached to nearly 75 , 000 both domestic and foreigners during last tourist season, including 32,000 foreign tourists .He said that the Tourism Department has arranged many training programs for the interested youths of Leh district for guides like cultural tour, adventure expeditions, cooks etc. which have proved very fruitful to the young generation to earn their livelihood. Sahu said that this type of training to the guide candidates is very important to give positive impact to the visiting tourists and also it is a capacity building program for the guides to avail income generation in a professional way, he added. He urged upon the trainees to study about the historical buildings, monasteries and monuments and also advised to keep contact with the scholars, academicians and educationist of Ladakh to develop their knowledge and perform their duty as tourist guide in a perfect manner by giving right description of the monuments. He said that this kind of workshop would develop the professional skill of the tourist guides. He said that the district Administration would extend all possible help and support for conducting such training programs in future also. Earlier, the resource person of UNESCO Shaguma Gahilote exhibited a documentary regarding the aims and objectives of the training program like training modules, core modules and site modules.
