Plot deepens: Leela Karan bids adieu to SAYSS, awaits BJP nod

Jammu, Mar 14: Leela Karan Sharma, who as convenor of the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti has spearheaded two month long agitation in Jammu today submitted his resignation to the core committee of the Sangarsh Samiti thus paving way for his candidature speculation is rife in political circles that Leela Karan Sharma will be fielded by the BJP on Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat but a formal announcement is awaited in this regard.
The Bhartiya Janta Party Parliamentary Board meeting in Delhi will shortly announced its nominees for the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, whatsoever..
Interestingly, the leaders of Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS), which spearheaded the two month long agitation in Jammu in summer of 2008, are being seen among the front runners for Lok Sabha election on BJP ticket. Leela Karan Sharma is reportedly pitching for Jammu-Poonch segment and spokesman of SAYSS, Dr. Jitendra Singh is learnt to be lobbying for Udhampur-Kathua-Doda seat, as already reported in Saturday issue of this news paper.
Early Times Correspondent talked to several politicians on his contesting Lok Sabha elections.
Dhaman Bhasin, General Secretary, PDP, said that by contesting Lok Sabha elections, stand of its convenor stand exposed before the people and should explain their decision. Leela Karan was a man of integrity and credibility and people of Jammu posed total faith in him and by announcing his candidature of contesting elections on BJP ticket, his stand has been exposed. Right from the beginning, he maintained, our organization is non-political and will never enter into politics. His leaving SAYSS mid-way poses big questions for him and our stand has been vindicated.
Rattan Lal Gupta, provincial president, J&K National Conference, Jammu province, said that he has played with the sentiments of the people of Jammu. This means, they say different thing and do different things. He is answerable to the people of Jammu and moreover it is his personal decision.
Ashok Khajuria, MLA and state BJP president, said, that his name will be finalize by Parliamentary Board meeting and by Monday morning, Picture will be clear.
Shilpy Verma, who contested unsuccessfully Assembly elections from Bishnah Constituency on BJP ticket, said that I am new in politics and Leela Karan Sharma’s contesting Lok Sabha election is his personal decision. Moreover, party highcommand’s decision will be honoured by every BJP member and as a state secretary, Mahila Morcha, BJP, our duty is to help the party and its candidates in coming Lok Sabha elections.
Prof. Bhim Singh, Patron, Panther Party, said that, his contesting Lok Sabha polls in not important for me. This has no relevance and in democracy, everyone has right to contest elections, he added.
Brigadier Suchet Singh, while addressing the media persons today said that Leela Karan Sharma has submitted his resignation from the post of the convenor of the Sangarsh Samiti citing personal reasons. He further said that if in future Leela Karan join any political party or contest the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidates, Samiti would not support in his campaign.
