Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 14 : The Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will visit Jammu and Kashmir March 18 to review the security situation ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in the state.
Mr. Chidambaram would interact with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior officials to assess the situation in the state, which is holding elections to its six Lok Sabha seats in five phases.
He would visit this winter capital of the state, an official said, adding that it was not yet sure if he would go to the tate's summer capital Srinagar as well.
The security officials have prepared their assessment on account of the security needs owing to fresh threats that have emerged after the recent developments in Pakistan and frustration of separatists and militant outfits over the participation of the people in the assembly elections last year, said an official here.
More than 61 percent of the electorate had participated in the assembly elections. That was seen as a setback to the separatists and the militant outfits, who gave a call for a poll boycott.
