Early Times Report
KATHUA, June 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 17th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on Tuesday, totalling over Rs 20,000 crore to approximately 9.26 crore beneficiary farmers from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh through Direct Benefit Transfer.
KVK Kathua organized the live screening of release of 17th Instalment under "PM- KISAN" at its campus. Farmers from the panchyat Maha, Mehtabpur, Rahjani and large no of local farmers witnessed the programme.
While welcoming the farmers, Dr. Vishal Mahajan, Chief Scientist and Head, KVK Kathua stated that since it started, the PM-KISAN scheme has given more than Rs 3.04 lakh crore to over 11 crore eligible farmer families, showcasing its big impact and wide benefits. It is pertinient to mention that Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), a flagship scheme of the Government of India, is an outcome of the continued commitment of the Government of India to initiate policy actions and implement public programmes for an inclusive and productive agricultural sector. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24.02.2019. Under the scheme, eligible farmer families are provided a benefit of Rs. 6000 per year in three equal instalments of Rs. 2000 each, every four months. The benefit is transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through direct benefit transfer (DBT) mode, using modern digital technology.
Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat, Chief Scientist, KVK Kathua divulged that one of the highlights of todays event was that the Prime Minister has granted certificates to over 30,000 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs), officially recognising them as Krishi Sakhis. These women will play a crucial role in the Krishi Sakhi Convergence Programme (KSCP), which aims to transform rural India by empowering women as para-extension workers. This certification aligns with the objectives of the "Lakhpati Didi" programme, aimed at enhancing economic self-sufficiency among rural women.
Dr. Vishal Sharma, Scientist KVK Kathua also hightlighted the role of PM Kisan programme. He said that the timing of the DBT is very crucial. The amount is being transferred to help the farmers in purchasing the critical inputs during the ensuing Kharif season.
The farmers showed keen interest and appreciated the efforts of KVK Kathua in live screening of KVK Kathua. The proceedings of the event were carried out by Sushant Sharma and Amit Kumar.
