| Saji’s associates held | | | Agencies New Delhi, Mar 14 : A senior official of Narcotics Control Bureau and two Jammu and Kashmir Police constables were on Saturday arrested for allegedly siphoning off heroin along with arrested IPS officer Saji Mohan. Balwinder Kumar, Superintendent who was posted in Chandigarh, and Mohan's PSOs Naveen Kumar and Devinder Pal Singh, were arrested by the NCB on the charge of conspiring with Mohan to siphon off heroin from seized contraband and then indulging in its trade, sources said. Mr. Mohan, a J&K cadre officer, was arrested on January 24 by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly trying to sell heroin in Mumbai. At the time of his arrest, he was posted as Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate in Kochi. Mr. Mohan's three accomplices were arrested under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs Psychotropic Substances Act and subsequently sent to judicial custody till March 27 after being produced before a magistrate in Chandigarh. The IPS officer is accused of having siphoned off heroin from those seized by the agency during his tenure (2006-08) as the NCB Zonal Director, Chandigarh. Mr. Mohan was a known anti-narcotics crusader who had exposed the alleged the police-drug mafia nexus in Chandigarh. The NCB had on January 30 also filed a case with the Chandigarh police against Mr. Mohan for allegedly bungling in accounts to the tune of over Rs 13 lakhs. |
