Azad enlightens EU MPs, intellectuals about special identity, Multi Lingual , Multi ethnic and multi religious charter of J&K

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 21 – Chief Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad while speaking to the Members of European Parliament at a function held at Belgium and also South Asia and SAARC delegation has said that India is swiftly moving ahead to achieve the millenium development goals which is the objective of human development currently in progress.
He expressed his confidence that India will very soon emerge as a world leader in IT, pharmaceutical and biotechnology. The Chief Minister pointed out that India and European Union (EU) are presently two largest democracies in the world with rich background of multi culturalism. He said that in present situation multi religious, multi ethnic and multi lingual societies are the real assets of exemplary democracies.
The Chief minister said that both India and EU have much contribute towards fostering a rule based international order whether it is through UNO or WTO. He said for both the societies tomorrow is a challenge but with the determination of the people the challenges will be overcome. He also referred about strategic partnership between India and EU announced at the 5th India EU sumit held at Hague in 2004. He hoped that it would be a guideline to strengthen the ties at all levels.
Mr Azad said that both India Eur proving their mettle in the field of Science and Technology. EU has been recognized with appreciation and the role of India in its scientific achievements. He mentioned about ambitious Gallalieo project and ITER where India’s participation has proved of very significant nature. The Chief Minister said that worldwide recognition of India’s strength in the field of latest IT has opened up scope of India’s participation in other scientific technology basis projects in EU. He offered the commitment of India in furthering this kind of cooperation in future.
The Chief Minister said both India and EU have a rich cultural heritage and people of both the countries are required to be involved in culture exchange. He hoped that in Beljim Festival of India commencing from 7th of October 2006 shall fruitful.
The Chief Minister said that India and EU have responsibility to promote peace, stability and prosperity not only in their respective regions but work at global level for the purpose. He further said that both societies are ideally suited to cooperate and collaborate to foster peace, growth and security not only in their respective reasons but in the world at large. He said that continuing exchange of Parliamentarian delegations and civil society dialogue has promoted mutual understanding.
Mr Azad while referring of his state of Jammu and Kashmir said that it is the Unique State sharing common borders with Pakistan and China. He said since historical times, the cultural influences of central Asia, Persia, Afghanistan, Tibet, Magnolia and rest of the sub-continent had have a deep impact of pluralistic development of this region. He said that this state is multi religious, multi ethnic and multi lingual which symbolizes India’s composite culture.
The Chief Minister said keeping all these factors in view, the government of India resolve to protect the special identity of J&K State, constitutional guarantee have been provided through article 370 of Indian Constitution that accords special status with a large measure of Autonomy. He said that people of J&K are regularly participating in local, state and national election and enjoy full democratic rights, social, economic and political as compare to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir where these rights are lacking.
The Chief minister while referring about deadly effects of October 8, 2005 earthquake that struck various parts of J&K State and PoK said that Central and State government’s were able to undertake all rescue, relief and rehabilitation operation effectively. He said that in order to avoid any death during severe winter shelter sheds for all affected families were constructed within a short period of two months. He said we were able to provide food, water, medicines and other relief material to the quake survivors out of our own resources and were also ready to provide liberal support to Pakistan, which could have helped in mitigating the hardships of people affected in POK and also reduced the deaths which occurred there. He regretted that Indian offer of timely help and support to Pakistan for quake affected people was turndown.
At the conclusion, the Chief Minister invited members of EU to visit India including J&K State. He hoped that the constructive cooperation between two societies will lead to a better tomorrow for all.
The Chief minister Mr Ghulam Nabi azad also called on Mr Josep Borrel Fontelles, President of the EU Parliament and Mr Elmar Brok, Chairman Foreign Affairs Committee of the EU Parliament.
