| Comic play ‘Doctor Palta’ staged at Natrang’s Sunday Theatre | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 15-Hilarious comedy, a new play ‘Doctor Palta’ written by Balwant Gargi was staged in Natrang’s weekly theatre show Sunday Theatre under the direction of Balwant Thakur. Set in a small town of Punjab in the late sixties, the play is also a contemporary satire depicting the early struggle of professionals striving to settle down in their professions. Payara Singh Palta after loosing every penny to complete his bachelor’s in Dental Surgery struggles a lot to get a job but in vain and finally decides to setup his own clinic to earn his livelihood. Here he confronts with lot of problems in the absence of resources. There is no client, no work which amounts to lot of frustration to him. Here strikes an idea in him to experiment new ways to attract clients. To begin with he prepares his beautiful wife to become a stylish attractive nurse so at least her beauty may lure some clients. This experiment becomes counterproductive and his friends start showering advances on her which results into yet another frustration. In early sixties having a telephone line was a big status symbol. Dr. Palta now plans to have a telephone line at the clinic to boast of having over whelming response to his practice and here the turn is given strictly be appointment. The telephone department installs an instrument in the clinic but asks him to wait for the connection. Dr. Palta could not hold himself and wanted to make best use of the instrument. He advises his wife now to assist him by creating telephone ring sounds through a table bell. Whenever some client comes she is to play the bell as if his telephone is ringing. Here starts series of hilarious events one succeeding the other and Dr Palta leaves no occasion in befooling himself. The drama reaches to a climax when Dr. Palta continues his posed telephonic conversation before a telephone lineman who had come to connect his instrument with the line. Gaurav Jamwal as Doctor Plata was in his best ever and through his stylistic acting he generated lot of humor. Tajasvi Sharma played the role of his innocent wife efficiently who had to suffer for Dr. Palta’s foolishness. Rahul Singh played the role of Jhanda Singh and Rohit Verma played the role of Sawroop with full professional ease. Deep Singh made his maiden entry in Sunday Theatre as lineman. The lights were designed by Gaurav Jamwal and executed by Mohammed Yaseen, Mohit Sharma designed the music of the play. Anita Dhar did the presentations and Pankush Verma coordinated the show.
