| JK Gujjars protests against DD’s linguistic bias | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 15-. The Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today castigated Doordarshan for its linguistic prejudiced against Gojri in perpetrations and distributions of “IN HOUSE” productions by Srinagar Kendera. The tribe alleged that not a single in house or project production in Gojri was taken into hand by the DD Kendera Srinagar even Rs.30 crores has been utilized during current fiscal under the pretext of promotion of regional languages of the State, by the station. The community registered a strong protest over the biased and anti-tribal approach of the DD authorities and demanded a CBI inquiry into miss utilization and un authorized diversion of funds meant for Gojri and other regional languages of J&K. While addressing a protest meeting of Gojri Writers held here this afternoon Dr Javaid Rahi, National Secretary of Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation a National Organization working for the preservation and propagations of Tribal Culture in India, condemned the cultural invasion unleashed on Gujjars by the Kashir Channel, DDK Srinagar .He alleged that State sponsored electronic media in Jammu and Kashmir is in no way the representative channel of all communities and tribes of J& K State. “We the Gujjars constitute more than 20 per cent of total population of the state and second largest identity of Kashmir Valley but due to biased approach of DD authorities no representation is given to our art, culture, languages, customs and secular ethos for which they are known all over the world” alleged Dr. Rahi. The writers on the occasion alleged that DD Srinagar has turned into a hub of corruption and favoritism. They demanded a thorough CBI inquiry in miss utilization and diversion of funds sanctioned for Gojri and other regional languages of the State during the current fiscal. The members of the Gujjar organizations who participated in protest meeting included Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars United Front, J&K Gujjar Bakerwal Joint Forum and J&K Gujjar Bakerwal Students Federation.
