Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 26: The Eco Club "Tawishi" of Government College for Women (GCW) Bhagwati Nagar commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with an impactful awareness drive under the patronage of the college principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol.
The awareness drive focused on municipal workers and labourers, aiming to reach a section of society often overlooked yet crucial in the fight against drug abuse and human trafficking. Dr. Mosmi Raina, convenor of the Eco Club, and Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Punjabi, interacted with the workers, discussing their daily life experiences and the health problems faced due to drug abuse within their communities.
The workers were informed about the insidious techniques human traffickers use to manipulate and exploit their victims, often involving drugs and alcohol. Traffickers use these substances to control their victims, making them obey demands, work longer hours, and comply with rules. Moreover, victims are frequently forced into criminal activities. The workers were cautioned to stay alert and protect themselves and their families from such dangers.
Dr. Meeru Abrol appreciated the effort to organize such a drive and emphasized the importance of collective action to tackle these pressing issues. She highlighted that drug abuse and human trafficking are grave societal challenges that undermine the health, security, and dignity of individuals, and it is our personal and collective responsibility to address these issues.
The event was a significant step in raising awareness and promoting safety within the community, reinforcing the need for ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and human trafficking.
