BHADERWAH, June 29: To commemorate the sacrifices and to remember one of the most decorated soldiers in the history of Indian Army, 2 J&K (I) Coy NCC, Bhaderwah celebrated "Sheheed Diwas" on the 17th death anniversary of Naib Subedar Chunni Lal SM, VrC & AC of 8 JAK Li, on Fridays 28th, June, 2024.
Naib Subedar Chunni Lal, who was a resident of Bhara/Southa village of Bhaderwah, lost his life in a gunfight with militants in Kupwara sector on 24 June, 2007.
Pertinently, Lal remains the only soldier to receive the Sena Medal, Veer Chakra and Ashok Chakra (posthumous) simultaneously.
On Friday, he was remembered by NCC cadets Bhaderwah, under the aegis of 2 J&K (I) Coy NCC, Bhaderwah at Gatha Park/Gatha Resort in Bhaderwah, District Doda, J&K.
Wreaths were laid on the statue of the soldier by CO & & all ranks officials, NCC Cadets and Associate NCC Officers.
A total of more than 70 NCC cadets from GHSS Sartingal, HSS Bhalra and GDC Bhaderwah, Associate NCC Officers, CO & all ranks of unit were also present on the occasion.
"It is very important to remember the sacrifices of the brave soldiers, who fought for the sovereignty of the nation and also laid down their life for the country."
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Koul (Associate NCC Officer), said.
We salute him for his indomitable courage, valuor, action & supreme sacrifice.
The programme was organised under the guidance and supervision of Commanding Officer NCC Bhaderwah.
