18th National Statistics Day celebrated in Rajouri

RAJOURI, June 29: The 18th National Statistics Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in District Rajouri. National Statistics Day is observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis, a renowned Indian statistician, and to raise public awareness about the importance of statistics in daily life and policy-making.
The event, aimed at highlighting the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation, was supervised by the Deputy Commissioner, Om Prakash Bhagat.
At the outset of the event, District Statistics & Evaluation Officer, Sandeep Kumar Sharma highlighted the importance of the day with special focus on the theme for the current year “Use of data for decision making” and also paid tributes to Professor P.C Mahalanobis, the father of Indian Statistics for his visionary efforts and commitment towards the advancement of the study of the statistics.
The celebration included various activities such as discussions, and presentations focusing on the significance of reliable data in decision-making processes. Cultural items were also presented while celebrating the day.
The Deputy Commissioner, in his address, emphasized the importance of accurate statistical data for the development of a district and the nation as a whole. He also acknowledged the efforts of statisticians and data analysts in providing valuable insights that aid in effective governance.
He said that National Statistics Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Prof. PC Mahalanobis for his significant role in the study of socio- economic contours of India, which are extremely useful till date for the Government in taking decisions regarding the policies having direct impact on the country’s population and overall development. He encouraged the staff to embrace the theme of “Use of Data for Decision Making” and work together to promote statistical literacy and data-driven decision-making in the district.
Among others present were Jahangir Khan, Assistant Commissioner (Rev.); Bilal Rashid Mir, Deputy Director Planning SAMAGRA J&K; Tasadaq Hussain, Deputy Director (E&S) O/o the Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Peer Panjal, Rajouri and other staff members of Chief Planning Office, District Statistics & Evaluation Office Rajouri and other line departments viz Statistical Officers, Statistical Assistants, Junior Statistical Assistants, Sr. Assistants, Jr. Assistants, Data entry operators of CRS and many other government officials.
