| Gupta pay tributes to Hari Singh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | SEPT 21 On the eve of birth anniversary of the late Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, the former Union Minister and a senior leader of BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta recalled that Hari Singh was the first Prince of the country who pleaded for independence of India as far back as in 1931 and that too, at London Round Table Conference when the British imperialists were deadly opposed to such voices. Since this conference, the Maharaja faced many conspiracies against his state but the worst came for him when the Independence of the country came. Prof. Gupta also recalled that the Maharaja of the State using his legal authority signed the Instrument of Accession to Indian Union, which other over 555 Princes and Nawabs of the country had signed but it was highly intriguing that late Nehru on his own tagged certain uncalled for conditions. Not only this against the wishes of the Maharaja of the state, the Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru at the advice of certain elements including Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah went for a cease-fire with Pakistan when the Indian troops were fast advancing in liberating Pak-held areas of the state. Prof. Gupta said that Congress and National Conference asserted that their fight was not against the person of Hari Singh but they wanted to an end of a dynastic rule. But both these parties must explain to the people of the country including that of Jammu and Kashmir that are they not perpetrating dynastic rule but slightly in a different form. He observed that history would never forgive the Congress and its allies for their wrongs and follies in the future times, at present they may be enjoying the fruits of power but for the sacrifices made by the patriots and nationalists for the cause of India i.e. Barat Mata.
