Gratitude expressed for resolving Kunjwani-Narwal flyover issue
7/4/2024 10:31:31 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 4: Arun Gupta, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Tarun Chugh, Hon'ble BJP National General Secretary and Incharge of Jammu Kashmir Party Affairs, and Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament, for their efforts in resolving the issue pertaining to the disputed flyover from the Kunjwani-Narwal sector.
Arun Gupta stated that while the expressway was always welcomed, there was a strong preference for a flyover instead of a RE (Reinforced Earth) wall. The blind walls on both sides of the expressway could have disrupted vital connections between shops, businesses, and residential areas. The decision taken at the high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority of India, chaired by Nitin Gadkari, will address these concerns. A blind wall-based flyover would have negatively impacted commercial establishments and hindered free traffic movement. This decision has brought cheer to the local community and provided much-needed respite to stakeholders and business establishments on the outskirts of Jammu city.
The issue was brought to the attention of the Hon'ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, emphasizing that the Expressway from Delhi to Katra does not pass through residential areas up to Kunjwani. However, the section from Kunjwani onwards passes through city areas, affecting thousands of people. The land use in this area is primarily commercial, with various types of commercial activities, including wholesale outlets, malls, hospitals, retail outlets, and small-scale services.
The area from Kunjwani to Narwal encompasses both residential and commercial zones. A community-friendly, pillar-based design for the Expressway Flyover is believed to be more suitable, addressing local community concerns and contributing to the project's overall success.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the issue was resolved in a high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority of India, presided over by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.
