3/17/2009 12:15:45 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 16: With some signs normalcy returning in Pakistan, the Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has called for revival of the sagging peace process on Kashmir.
Reacting to sacked Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Choudhary and other judges in Pakistan, Mufti hoped that this significant decision of Pakistani government would help in establishing political stability and peace in the neighboring country. “Political stability in Pakistan is must for establishing lasting peace in the subcontinent in general and Kashmir in particular”, he opined, adding “disturbance and political instability in Pakistan is not in the interest of the people of Kashmir”. He, however, hoped that the decision of the Pakistan government to reinstate sacked Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan and other judges would help in restoring political stability and peace in the neighboring country.
Sayeed today said that there is a need to reactivate and carry forward the peace process which was initiated after formation of the PDP led coalition regime in the State in 2002. He exuded confidence that the peace process pioneered by the PDP would be set into motion and be taken to the logical conclusion.
Calling upon the party workers to prepare themselves for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, PDP patron said that the party would effectively fight elections on all the six Lok Sabha seats of the State on its performance.
Terming NC-Congress coalition as government without common minimum program and agenda, he recalled that “PDP’s participation in the coalition government with Congress was not a device of power sharing but an act to hope for pursuing a healing touch policy aimed at repairing the damaged psyche of the people, restoring their dignity, rekindling hope in their hearts and motivating them to mould their destiny through a participatory political process”.
Taking a serious note of the latest incidents of killing of innocent civilians at various places in Kashmir, he called for concrete measures to avoid reoccurrence of such incidents in future. He said that there was a dire need to take some effective steps to restore peoples’ confidence adding that by confidence building measure the Government of India should not only punish the guilty but also start withdrawal of troops deployed on the internal security duties in the State”.
On the question of unemployment, he said that during election campaign NC had promised to recruit 8th pass in the police and it was high time for the government to fulfill that promise. He further said that government should accelerate the recruitment process and create more job avenues for the educated unemployed youth of the state.
