| BJP woos Jaitley back | | | New Delhi, March 16: With the spat between Party President Rajnath Singh and general secretary Arun Jaitley seeing no end, the RSS has now intervened to ease the situation. As per sources, RSS general secretary Suresh Soni called up Jaitley late last evening to find a solution to the stand-off. Jaitley is reportedly miffed Singh over the appointment of Sudhanshu Mittal, a businessman known for his high connections, as co-convener of North-East Affairs and is said to have registered his protest on the issue to the party leadership. Mittal was a close aide of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan and is now close to Rajnath. His rivalry with Jaitley is said go back to Mahajan's days. Party sources said Mittal appointment was for his crucial role in the party's tie-up with AGP in Assam. Jaitley has declined to attend any of the Central Election Committee (CEC) meetings till the appointment of Mittal is revoked, sources said. Earlier on March 13, Jaitley had skipped a crucial CEC meeting to select candidates for elections in Bihar, setting off rumours that he is unhappy with the party’s campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections. All eyes are on the CEC meeting to be held on Tuesday, as the party top brass is trying hard to convince Jaitley to attend the meet. The refrain of the party leadership to Jaitley is that complaints, if any, can be sorted out in the post-poll scenario and any stand-off now could be detrimental to the party's Lok Sabha campaign.
