| Bharat Nirman campaign at Leh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | SEPT 21 Tsering Dorje, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Hill Development council today inaugurated the Five-day bharat Nirman Campaign at the local Polo Ground here, today, which was attended by thousand of People. The campaign is being organized by Press Information Bureau in coordination with other departments of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting including Directorate of Faild Publicity, Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity, Song and Drama Division, All India Radio and Doordarshan. This is the second such campaign in J&K. Earlier one was organized at Kishtwar, Distt. Doda, last month. He said that India’s dream of becoming a developed country couldn’t be fulfilled until the condition of thousands of people living below the poverty line improves. Praising the present government at the Center, he said that the govt’s Bharat Niggam Programme was an excellent effort towards the betterment of the general public. Elaborating further about the different programme of the government which includes Bharat Nirman, National Rural Employment Gurantee Act, National Rural Health Mission, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid-day Meal Programme, Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal mission, Right to Information Act and Prime Minister’s 15 point programme for the welfare of minorities, Dorje called upon the general public to get benefited from this campaign which is providing such important information for the awareness of the citizens of Leh-Ladakh. He said that two of the programmes Sarva Shiksha Abhayan (SSA) and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) have already been launched in the district. This is pertinent to mention here that the SSA is the national flagship programme to achieve universal elementary education in a mission mode. In the Union Budget 2006-07, outlay for SSA has been increased from Rs. 7156 crores for 2005-06 to Rs. 10041 crores for 2006-07. Whereas, NRHM seeks to provide effective health care to rural population throughout the country with special focus on 18 states including Jammu and Kashmir, which have weak public health indicators and weak infrastructure. Earlier, he also inaugurated the photo exhibition on ‘Resurgent India’, put up by DAVP along with thirty five other stalls set up by center and state govt. agencies, department, NGOs, Indian Army and J&K Police. Smt. Bharti Vaid, Director (M&C), PIB, Jammu and Kashmir, while welcoming the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries, earlier, requested them to motivate local people to participate in the campaign and get benefited. Anil Kumar Saxena, Deputy Director General (M&C), PIB, New Delhi also addressed the public and said that the central govt. was doing all efforts for the betterment and uplift of the general public. He said through these campaigns, the govt. wanted to make the general public aware about its different schemes so that people get benefited and more accountability and transparency could come in the govt. working. The artists of Song and Drama Division presented different musical items, which were applauded by the audience. The vote of thanks was presented by Surinder Kumar, Joint Director, and DFP Jammu.
