| Separate Tourism Boards demanded | | | Early Times Report
Jammu Mar 17- While welcoming the initiative of the Tourism Minister in promoting tourism in the state and the proposal mooted by him by developing tourism villages and introducing paying guest concept, R K Chadha President Citizens Forum and a senior leader of PDP, has said that sanctioning a paltry sum of Rs 2 lakh each family, who come forward to host tourist in their homes, is only the mockery of the scheme. It appears that the government’s stress has been on distributing cash doles to some selected favourite persons, with political motivation, rather than to make the scheme really functional and promote village tourism. Chadha has suggested that places around Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi area, where over 70 lakh pilgrims visit annually from all over the country should be identified and the scheme of paying guests by the families should be launched there. Even displaced Kashmiri Pandits should be settled in these villages, where two room tenements should be constructed and allotted to them. While they can keep their residence in one room, one room can be rented out to the paying guests, who should also be served food, comprising local cuisine.
