Awareness session for pregnant & lactating women organized in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, July 10: Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women Mission Shakti under the Department of Social Welfare, Udhampur, organized an awareness session for pregnant and lactating women in Panchayat Kambal Danga.
Under the guidance of District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Saloni Rai, and the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer, Kanika Gupta, the session aimed to educate mothers on nutrition and the need for adequate rest before childbirth.
The main focus of the session was to raise awareness about diet during and after pregnancy. Sheetal, a Gender Specialist from Sankalp HEW, discussed the maternity benefits available to women from socially and economically weaker sections. She also explained the objectives of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) Scheme, which provides cash incentives as partial compensation for wage loss, enabling women to take adequate rest before and after child birth.
Additionally, she emphasized the importance of improving health-seeking behaviors among pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Later, Pooja Jamwal, another Gender Specialist from Sankalp HEW, interacted with PMMVY beneficiaries to assess the impact of the scheme.
An enrolment drive for the PMMVY Scheme, in collaboration with the Poshan Project at Anganwadi Centre Mongerli Ist, Panchayat Kambal Danga, Udhampur, was also conducted to address on-the-spot issues faced by the people. More than 50 participants benefited from the program.
