Early Times Report

Jammu, July 10: Former Chief Minister and Vice-President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that the Assembly would be held in Jammu and Kashmir and there is no reason to delay the polls further.
“Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have assured that elections would be held in Jammu and Kashmir very soon so we are confident that Union Government would fulfill its commitment of allowing people of J&K to elect their own government”, Omar Abdullah said, adding, “Election Commission of India has already started the process to conduct the Assembly elections”.
Pointing toward recent terror attacks in Jammu province, Omar Abdullah said that some forces were desperately trying to disrupt the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir. “I do not think that Union Government will take the excuse of postponing Assembly elections in wake of recent terror attacks in Jammu province”, he argued, addin

, “the forces inimical to peace and democracy, want to scuttle democratic exercise in J&K”. “Delaying Assembly elections in J&K amounts to succumbing before the anti-national forces”, he said and warned that postponing Assembly elections would encourage the forces responsible for bloodshed and destructions.
Omar Abdullah argued that Article 370 had no connection with terrorism, debunking claims made by the BJP. Despite the abrogation of Article 370, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir continues to deteriorate.
Omar Abdullah emphasized that the removal of Article 370 had not impacted terrorism. He squarely blamed the BJP for the ongoing terror attacks in Jammu.
Regarding cross-border attacks, Omar stated that such decisions were made at a higher level. While previous strikes, including the Balakot operation, failed to halt terrorism, he expressed openness to listening if the BJP could guarantee a terrorism-free Jammu and Kashmir through further strikes.
