| Falling Standards of Education | | |
Khushwant S Ranial
Commercialization of education has changed the social scenario around us .We are pacing towards the growth and development of new society bereft of the moral values and solid ethics .The quality of education has definitely lowered to large extent. Mushrooming of the private educational set ups instead of catering to the needs of the society have rather polluted the educational status to a greater degree. The main thrust of these new businesses houses is to garner the amount by fleecing the poor hapless citizens without providing the basic infrastructure and adequate staffing to serve the basic purpose. The tall claims of these institutes get exposed at the time when their products fail to meet the needs of the new globalize emerging society and barely a few percentage of their products manage to succeed in gaining the honorable, profitable and lucrative job avenues to sustain their livelihood in this fast growing industrialized world .Too add to the woe is the parallel growth of the tuition centers in every nook and corner of the every ,town and cities .These have also become another source of generating the easy income. There seems no check upon the volume and growing magnitude of these centers. Most of these centers are placed in worst pitiable condition filling no desired requisites like black board ,seating arrangements and ventilation .Overcrowding of these centers generally becomes a soft place for the teenagers to indulge in the undesired acts by allowing them to come closer because the concerned teacher is ill bothered to take care of the immoral acts perpetuating before him .Most of these teaching institutes have set up nexus with the educational boards and these elements with the connivance of one another help , succeeds in getting the results to their desired ends .We have come across so many times about the paper leakages well before the commencement of the papers .Mass copying has become another menace to distort the attention of the pupils .Examination centers are sold at the cost of the student’s pocket. Every private educational centre irrespective of its nature tries its level best to get his/her student get through with flying colors by all means may be for it one has to spend hefty amounts. The ample proof of the same came to light through a TV channel’s secret recorded footage of one of the examination centers in the on going board examination in Uttar Pradesh .How long all this will go ?.Will anyone rise to the occasion and take stringent measures to place a check upon all such unhealthy practices? The greatest cause behind the emergence of all such mess is none other than is the lack of dedicated, devoted and committed teaching fraternity to deliver to cause of nation. Gone are the days when teaching was a revered profession simply because it had an elementary touch of piousness, closeness ,sincerity, affection and above all honesty to deal with the teaching .There used to be a very close rapport between educator and educand. Alas things are now missing .The inbuilt relations of the educand and educator are left at the mercy of God because education today is totally placed on the sale .Materialistic outlook has almost made every one involved in the education system at different rank and file entirely deaf and dumb. Despite keeping knowledge about the whole existing mess no body is willing to take concrete action to stem the rot. Rather habit of accusation and counter allegations keep on floating to save one’s own skin. This all is not going to be in the interest of a developing nation because if a single generation gets drifted away from its moral standards ,we shall go far behind to compete with the developed nations ,The sole reason to lay emphasis is on the account of the fact our future is based on past cultural legacy whose transmission needs to be pulled on despite our all odds. Our past glorious history has remained the basis of our survival so far .So all these things could be achieved ,restored, and kept intact provided our educational system keeps her lofty ideals cherished in the constitution primarily intact, free of pollution and impartial vision. Remember, School is the most modest temple of learning where pebbles are polished and diamonds are dimmed. It is an institution consciously devoted to the pursuit of knowledge ,carving of the tender soft ,sensitive minds to generate solutions of problems the critical appreciation of achievements and the training of educand at the ground level .But all such tall claims fell short where an educator holds partial, partisan ,myopic and discriminatory outlook in lending justice A teacher who attempts to teach without holding and inspiring his pupil is like hammering on the cold iron. The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes and inspires his listeners with the wish to teach himself simply because the garden work needs require more in uprooting weeds than in the planting seeds .A teacher affects eternity and thus cannot claim himself about where his influence stops. A teacher must count it one of the highest virtues in educating the children of the others. This all is only possible if the teacher of today vows to burn himself like a candle to raise the parameters for others to emulate. In the end it is pertinent to mention that parents of our generation are equally responsible for all grown mess because we do not have enough time to spare to attend to the burning needs of our wards .We take pride in affording the facilities but hesitate in asking our children about their study schedules ,companionship ,schooling routine work on and off the school problems. We do not share our valuable time with them to know their immediate problems with the result distances have grown between teacher and the parents ,parents and and students and students and teachers. This trio is missing the basic link between one another with the result no one is able to generate the conclusive solutions for the degrading system of the education .The students cannot be held accountable because they lack the exposure and experience but as far parents and teachers are concerned ,they need to gear up their socks to deliver goods for the betterment of the upcoming generations.
