| Language barrier and a missed flight | | |
SUMIT SHARMA Jammu, March 17: An elderly person not only missed his flight to Srinagar but also had to cool heels in a Police Station just for the reason that Jammu Police could not understand Kashmiri. Ghulam Hassan Bhatt of Sopore had reached airport to take a flight for Srinagar when airport security-men found wad of money in his bag. He was questioned about the source of money or any documentary proof to prove that money was his. He could not explain this and was taken into custody by the Police. The Police said that Rs 3.81 lakhs were recovered from the bag of Bhatt and the Police suspected some suspicious transaction. Hours later the Police came to know the reason as why Bhatt was not able to answer any of their questions. “In fact the old man did not know any language other than Kashmiri and could not understand anything asked to him”, a senior Police officer told Early Times. Late in the evening some Kashmiri speaking cops were taken to Satwari Police Station, where Bhatt was kept and they quizzed him. Bhat explained that the money was out of the sale proceeds of a piece of land and he was taking it to Srinagar. The old man was later let off.
